To make way for one character’s return, a few others must perish. Former Avenger Jack of Hearts returns in She-Hulk, but characters like the Masked Raider and Phastos die in Defenders and Eternals, respectively. Phastos isn’t the only character to fall in Eternals, as Thena earns a Character Development for having to kill her Deviant lover when he begins his excessive deviation. Though not a physical death, Ben Reilly learns that Beyond is continually mind wiping him and U.S. Agent voluntarily signs up for a shady organization when he joins the Thunderbolt Units in Devil’s Reign: Villains for Hire. The latest Starbrand finally earns her place in the Fantasy Comic League and rapidly ages from toddler to teen fighting the Multiverse Masters of Evil in the latest Avengers.
Book of the Week – Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1 (Review score: 60 Points; 12 Characters). The new Black Knight, Jacks Chopra, takes to the field with Dan Whitman guiding his daughter from his Ebony Siege. Their new partnership faces its first real test when the X-Men are transformed by Necromon the Netherking into giant monstrosities. With the help of the hero Excalibur, Jacks learns to rely on others in order to save the X-Men and London.
Hero of the Week – Marvel Girl (Review score: 15 Points/3 Appearances; 5.0 Pts/App). Three event Appearances by Marvel Girl give the X-Men team their first Hero of the Week title in 2022. She gets credit for a Leads Teams in the “Death of Doctor Strange” and “Devil’s Reign” tie-ins, while also getting a Team-Up and Defeats Antagonists in the former. She also scores her top power, Telepathy, in all three Appearances.
Antagonist of the Week – Black Skull (Review score: 11 Points/1 Appearance; 11.0 Pts/App). Black Skull sets himself apart from the rest of the Multiversal Masters of Evil. He is the first of the characters to receive a Fantasy Comic League scoring because he first appeared in the “Heroes Reborn” event in the summer of 2021. He’s also being showing up the more than the other villains in the current Avengers event. This time he Leads a Team and Defeats another Deathlok in the main Avengers title.
