Weekly Marvel Review: August 25, 2021 (Week 34)

A new addition to Marvel’s library of youthful legacy characters—basketball prodigy Connor Young—makes his debut in the new Darkhawk series and the Fantasy Comic League review system. The Darkhawk Amulet finds its new owner after Chris Powell sent it away at the end of Darkhawk: Heart of the Hawk. Moon-Boy, Devil Dinosaur’s original companion, makes his first appearance in nearly four years and gets inducted into the score keeping.

Book the Week – Marvel’s Voices: Identity #1 (Review score: 55 Points; 15 Characters). Ahead of his box office premier, Shang-Chi leads the latest Marvel anthology spotlight book. Other popular Asian characters who share the book include Ms. Marvel and Silk, while a handful of characters not seen too often this year, such as Wave (first 2021 appearance) and Brawn (third 2021 appearance), fill out the rest of the stories.

Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 21 Points/3 Appearances; 7.0 Pts/App). Nothing can stop Spider-Man, especially with a series titled Non-Stop Spider-Man living up to its name. That in addition to a non-stop string of Symbiote Spider-Man books by Peter David. The fourth installment in this symbiote series, Crossroads, deals with Karnilla, the Norn Queen sending Peter and the symbiote across the otherdimensional realm.

Antagonist of the Week – Solem (Review score: 11 Points/1 Appearance; 11.0 Pts/App). Wolverine’s hunt for Solem intensifies as Blackmore the pirate details the Arakkii assassin’s origins. Solem’s constant pursuit of pleasure gets him eight distinct power usages in his first appearance since the “Swords of X” event.

Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Peter Parker (21); Captain America, White Widow (17); Black Widow (13); Cable (12); Darkhawk/Connor Young, Solem, Thor (11); Bulldozer, Ms. Marvel, Red Guardian (9)
