There is a party on Krakoa and it seems nearly every mutant has been invited. More than 50 characters gather at Blob’s Green Lagoon Bar to properly celebrate Cypher and Bei’s recent nuptials in Vita Ayala
and Rod Reis’ latest New Mutants book. Of note are the characters Trance and Cosmar who get added to the Fantasy Comic League review system for the first time. Trance has not appeared in a comic since the end of 2019 and Cosmar is a new character who is about to meet the minimum qualifications for statistic tracking in her next appearance. Two other characters also get added to the database as well: Red Wolf, who wraps a supporting role in the Werewolf by Night mini, and Kade Kilgore, the Black King of the Hellfire Childcare Club, and first of that group to reach 36 total appearances since its inception 10 years ago.
Book the Week – New Mutants #15 (Review score: 76 points). Apart from the marital merriment, Warpath continues to train the younger Krakoan mutants on how to synergize their powers. Unbeknownst to him, another tutor is influencing some of the kids. The Shadow King meets with Anole, No-Girl and Cosmar for the second issue in a row, though his nefarious plans are still a mystery. Cosmar wishes to enter the Crucible in order to be reborn and “fix” her mutated appearance, but Mirage turns down her request saying she is perfect the way she is. Wolfsbane also receives bad news from Mirage who tells Rahne that her lost son is not in the system for resurrection protocols either.
Hero of the Week – Deadpool (Review score: 20 points). Wade Wilson and Conan team-up in Savage Avengers this week while each character also drops the latest issue of their solo title for their first appearances in 2021. Deadpool does more in his book compared to the Cimmerian and receives the top title. However, Conan’s 16 point performance in two books is good enough for second place. In their team-up and solo appearances, the blade-wielding fighters face corrupting influences and dangerous prophecies, not just from Knull.
Antagonist of the Week – Typhoid Mary (Review score: 5 points). In a slow week for Antagonists, half of the books do not feature an Antagonist eligible for stat keeping, Typhoid Mary takes top billing. However, The Griever at the End of All Things’ performance in Fantastic Four would make her a contender, if only she met the minimum Appearance requirements. That aside, Typhoid Mary takes great pleasure in her new role as a bodyguard for the Kingpin and literally jumps at the opportunity to battle the symbiote horde. She also does not seem to mind adding another personality to her fractured psyche after being possessed by a symbiote.
