A new year means rebirth. A fresh start and new beginnings. The Eternals represent all of those things. The creative team of Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribic launch the latest series for the cosmic heroes in advance of The Eternals’ cinematic debut in 2021 (pandemic permitting) with an issue that scores 27 points. Ikaris leads the way for that team and earns 10 points in the first issue of the new run.
Book the Week – M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games #2 (Review score: 72 points). M.O.D.O.K., the human-turned-giant head/computer flashes a wide array of powers for the second issue in a row when teaming up with Iron Man to infiltrate the Criminal Technology Show. Their mission: to reacquire the Starkwiz machine that was stolen by A.I.M. in the first issue. The only thing standing in their way is nearly three dozen villains attending the CTE expo in Las Vegas.
Antagonist of the Week – M.O.D.O.K. (Review score: 13 points). M.O.D.O.K. knows a lot about killing, it’s in his name. And he has a variety of ways of doing it. In five Appearances in 2020, he averaged 6 Powers/Appearance. In 2021, he’s firing out of the gate with 10 Powers in his first Appearance. M.O.D.O.K. bests Octavia Vermis in her Fantasy Comic League review score debut. Vermis earns 10 points and, like M.O.D.O.K., teams up with a nemesis.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Woman (Review score: 15 points). Jessica Drew continues the Fantasy Comic League surge she started in 2020 and claims the top title for the heroes in the first week of 2021. In her quest to cure herself and her niece, she rages against her closest allies and joins forces with her tormentor in her solo title. Spider-Woman adds an additional point in Amazing Spider-Man as a member of the Order of the Web.
