Firestar, still reeling from her deceptive double-agent role during the Fall of Krakoa, joins the West Coast Avengers in an effort to be a positive influence on the team’s paroled villains. As has become tradition at year’s end, Marvel provides a look ahead, this time it’s the Bishop and Cable led title, Timeslide. Iron Man breaks 200 points. Spider-Boy breaks 100.
Book of the Week – X-Men #9 (Review score: 55 Points; 16 Characters). The “Raid on Graymalkin” pits the X-Men against each other, driven by Scurvy’s manipulations. Tensions rise as the team leaders clash over whether to free Professor X, Graymalkin’s prized prisoner. But before they can decide, Psylocke and Nightcrawler take matters into their own hands, freeing Xavier and leaving everyone to wonder: Who is “Inmate X”?
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 20 Points/2 Appearances; 10.0 Pts/App). Peter Parker closes out the year with his 15th Hero of the Week title, once again finishing as Marvel’s top character. Despite appearing in 11 fewer issues, he still outpaces his previous year’s total by 25 points.
Antagonist of the Week – Mystique (Review score: 7 Points/1 Appearance; 7.0 Pts/App). Mystique claims her second Antagonist of the Week title, with her Defeat Antagonist breaking a three-way tie. She finishes seventh overall in a season where she underperformed compared to the previous year, with 11 fewer appearances and 15 fewer points—a 22.73% decline.
New Characters. Added Ghost Rider/Sergeant Sal Romero, the Spirit of Vengeance’s chosen host during World War II; Soldier Supreme, the mystical soldier featured in the Avengers’ multiversal “Avengers Assemble” event.
