Weekly Marvel Review: September 18, 2024 (Week 38)

Top Developments and Milestones. Thor steps down from the main Avengers team given his current troubles in his ongoing title; Spider-Man 2099 joins the Spider Society; Man-Thing gets venomized; members of the Wild Pack bond with the Life Foundation’s symbiotic spawns. Dazzler gets a new limited series; the original Deathlok celebrates his 50th anniversary.

Book of the Week – Avengers #18 (Review score: 46 Points; 15 Characters). The Avengers’ welcome Storm to the Impossible City as she contemplates taking Thor’s place on the team. The new mutant representation comes in handy when she calls on her X-Men allies for some telepathic assistance in locating Hyperion who hurtles through space on a collision course with Earth.

Hero of the Week – Agent Anti-Venom (Review score: 13 Points/1 Appearances; 13.0 Pts/App). Flash Thompson quarterbacks his Team-Up with Black Widow and scores a Save Civilian and Defeats Antagonist. He tackles his first Hero of the Week.

Antagonist of the Week – Scorpia (Review score: 5 Points/1 Appearance; 5.0 Pts/App). No distinguishable difference between the individual Appearances for Scorpia and Bullseye. However, Scorpia gets the title because she at least adds to the entertainment of a Dazzler concert, whereas Bullseye has a run of the mill fight with Daredevil and Spider-Man.

New Characters. Deathlok/Luther Manning, the original covert-cyborg-corpse; Granny Smith, a new X-Factor recruit; Great Gambonnos and Human Cannonball; members of the Circus of Crime; Manphibian, the Legion of Monsters member inspired by the Creature from the Black Lagoon; Ultimate Viper; Crippler and Puma, two of the newest members of Silver Sable’s Wild Pack; and Sugar Man, the grotesque geneticist from the Age of Apocalypse.

Top Characters (by review score). Agent Anti-Venom (13); Deadpool, Spider-Man/Peter Parker (12); Black Widow (11); Deathlok/Luther Manning, Misery (10); Dazzler, Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze (9); Vengeance, Wolverine/James Howlett (8)
