Weekly Marvel Review: July 31, 2024 (Week 31)

Twelve big developments in a week of epic finales and beginnings. Spider-Man destroys the Green Goblin persona in the conclusion of his “Easy Being Green” storyline and Captain Marvel destroys the Negabands in the final issue of her most current solo title. In the Blood Hunt finale, Bloodline breaks Varnea’s hold over her father while Doctor Strange bestows the title of Sorcerer Supreme upon Doctor Doom. In the Heir to Apocalypse finale, Cypher wins the contest and becomes Revelation. Forge forms a new X-Force team featuring Tank, a new addition to the database. Also added is Ultimate Captain Britain.

Book of the Week – Blood Hunt #5 (Review score: 63 Points; 16 Characters). The big summer event takes it second Book of the Week title, its first since the start of the event. Vampires have a new status quo, being able to walk in the light, and Doctor Doom deceives Doctor Strange, choosing to keep the title of Sorcerer Supreme and setting up a new world order.

Hero of the Week – Deadpool (Review score: 19 Points/3 Appearances; 6.33 Pts/App). Deadpool’s two Appearances in the “Weapon X-Traction” backup story lead to him earning his first Hero of the Week. Unfortunately, he also gets left off of the X-Force roster and learns Forge only teamed up with him to poison Taboo, the team’s first major challenge.

Antagonist of the Week – Green Goblin (Review score: 10 Points/2 Appearances; 5.0 Pts/App). With the help of Spider-Man, Norman Osborn frees himself the Green Goblin personality, but time will tell how long that lasts. Still firmly in the Antagonist division, he takes his third title and leaps over five other characters to take fifth place.

Top Characters (by review score). Deadpool (19); Captain Marvel (17); Wolverine/James Howlett (14); Forge (13); Askani (12); Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man/Peter Parker (11); Ghost-Spider, Green Goblin (10)
