Marvel begins to prepare for the upcoming MCU Thunderbolts movie by releasing two new titles: Thunderbolts, featuring a team influenced by the movie’s cast; and Sentry, the movie’s expected antagonist. Doctor Doom reaches 100 points but still trails the Carnage symbiote with only three weeks left in the year. Marrina, whoever that is, gets added to the database after an appearance in the Alpha Flight finale.
Book the Week – Amazing Spider-Man #39 (Review score: 46 Points; 17 Characters). The Gang War has its first round of losers. Spider-Man’s crew of street heroes take down Crime Master, Ringmaster and a few dozen A.I.M. agents. The heroes then split up to put out fires in different parts of New York—and their own tie-in issues. On the antagonists’ side, Beetle’s Syndicate knocks off Black Mariah’s gang.
Hero of the Week – Winter Soldier (Review score: 13 Points/1 Appearance; 13.0 Pts/App). The Winter Soldier edges out Iron Man for his first Hero of the Week and snags a Character Development for forming the new iteration of the Thunderbolts.
Antagonist of the Week – Red Guardian (Review score: 9 Points/1 Appearance; 9.0 Pts/App). His first appearance of the year nets him a Character Development for joining up with Bucky’s team and an Antagonist of the Week.
