Chaos is a ladder and two titles reach a chaotic conclusion. Agatha Harkness’ “Contest of Chaos” ends with Avengers Annual. Her failed attempt to create a new Darkhold has the unintended consequence of birthing a living being of chaos. On the opposite end of the chaos scale, Carnage takes the life of Virus, a Dylan Brock variant in the Death of the Venomverse finale.
Book the Week – Avengers Annual #1 (Review score: 62 Points; 18 Characters). The Avengers face off with Agatha’s Champions in the most chaotic part of the ocean, the Bermuda Triangle. While the heroes exchange blows, Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch are the only characters to register a Defeat Antagonist by thwarting Agatha’s plans.
Hero of the Week – Iron Man (Review score: 17 Points/4 Appearances; 4.25 Pts/App). Iron Man splits his time between the Avengers and supporting the X-Men. His fifth Hero of the Week sits him firmly in second place for both overall score and number of weekly accolades.
Antagonist of the Week – Carnage/Symbiote (Review score: 15 Points/1 Appearance; 15.0 Pts/App). At the end of his Death of the Venomverse event, the symbiote leaps into first place for the Antagonists. Three points shy of 100, can the symbiote hold off Dr. Doom in the last quarter of the year?
