It takes a lot for a character to cross over from the Fantasy Comic League’s Hero category to the Antagonist category, and vice versa. But leading a murderous assault on the Hellfire Gala which results in the death of numerous mutants, including original X-Men Marvel Girl and Iceman, will certainly seal your fate as a bad guy. As such, Moira X officially lands herself in the Antagonist rankings. Other fatalities for the mutants include newly elected members of the X-Men Cannonball, Dazzler, Frenzy, Jubilee and Prodigy.
Book the Week – X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 (Review score: 167 Points; 62 Characters). The Fall of X begins when Nimrod and Orchis literally crash the Hellfire Gala. The mutants put up a big fight but experience heavy loses. They are ultimately forced to flee Earth by Professor X’s telepathic influence. However, a handful resist his mental persuasion and remain behind to avenge the fallen. Included in the resistance is recently resurrected hero—and newly revealed mutant—Ms. Marvel.
Hero of the Week – Iron Man (Review score: 26 Points/5 Appearances; 5.2 Pts/App). Following the genocidal Gala, Emma Frost finds allies in the unlikeliest of places: Wilson Fisk and Tony Stark. Iron Man comes to the aid of the mutants mostly in part because his Stark Tech played a major role in the attack on the mutants in the form of Feilong’s Stark Sentinels. This is Tony’s fourth Hero of the Year.
Antagonist of the Week – Zeitgeist (Review score: 10 Points/1 Appearance; 10.0 Pts/App). First Antagonist of the Year for the X-Cellent’s leader who succeeds in attaining Godhood, unafraid of murdering anyone who gets in his way, including members of his own X-Cellent team.
